Trends of the Fifties
This Original and Unique Acrylic Fluid Triptych Painting captures the vibrant colours of the 1950s. It occurred to me that I could create a series devoted to the ‘Trends of the Fifties’.
In the post-war period, pastel, Scandinavian, and modern were the main styles of colour in vogue.
During this time, pastels were commonly used as tints for photographs, as spot colours, and in decorative border designs to create focus. Black was kept to a minimum, and tended to only appear in monochrome photos and in the outlines of illustrations. Designs from this period, popularised Gignham and Houndstooth patterns. In the 1950s, designers Alexey Brodivitch and Cipe Pineless contributed to making a mark on the world.
The two-tone style and the use of exuberant and less conventional shades on American automobiles have always caught my eye.
