Why Buy Art?

I've finally dragged myself into doing something creative at last. In this my first post, I simply explore what Art means, both to individuals and why is buying art is important.

Why Buy Art?

So why buy original artwork?, well after a prolonged hiatus, I’ve finally pushed myself by reconnecting with my creativity. This is my way to be part of something bigger in the community. Over the years I’ve been lucky enough to work with some pretty amazing people, and through that experience I’ve met even more talented artists.

My first task was to secure the domain name for I was assisted in the process by Titian Digital, a leading expert in developing and executing digital marketing strategies. Having my own website is an amazing opportunity for me to reach a wider audience with my artwork.

I am excited to be able to share my experiences as an artist with everyone who visits my website. I have been drawing and painting since I could hold a pencil or brush, since then, art has always been a passion of mine.

Part of this ‘Interweb’ malarkey will involve my tending to a blog, good for the old search engine, so I’m told. Here I hope to share with you more about my influences and explore advanced art techniques, amazing insider tips, inspirational ideas and expert guidance. You will also get insights on what I do, what I like and how I work.

So what to write? The goal of my first post, is to simply think about what Art means?, What is art? And reasons for choosing to buy original art.

What is Art?

There are many forms of art that express human creativity and imagination. For example, this can include: drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, performance art, dance, music, poetry, prose, and theatre. All these disciplines typically result in an output of works for appreciation by others primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

In many cases there are religious aspects to the works. Also, both sculpture and opera are often mixed in together with music on a grand scale, as some of these performances can be very large indeed and quite expensive to mount. But there are also other arts such as film making and television or internet based video.

Reasons for buying Art?

There are many reasons why someone may decide to buy a work of art. Often it is purely that it makes them feel good, and the sense of a strong connection with a piece is a good enough reason to buy it.

In this way, anyone can buy art even if they have no knowledge of the artists. Art is usually considered to be something that you buy to hold onto.

It might be the artwork has used techniques, or a particular medium that we like. Maybe the underlying concept or social commentary that motivates the artist about the world around us,  strikes a chord with you? It might even be some something as simple that the colour of a painting would look great in your home.

Art collectors purchase a piece of art that they love, which speaks to them and is a visual expression of what they find meaningful.

They then keep this work with them as it adds to their life on a daily basis. In this way, collecting art is similar to collecting vintage cars, rare wines or exotic travel: It’s about the passion and experience of seeking out the one perfect piece that speaks to you.

The value of original art comes from its uniqueness, rarity, and fact that it is not mass-produced. By purchasing one of a kind art, you know you own something no one else does.

Some people purchase art for investment purposes or just to enjoy. Art auctions are exciting and dynamic affairs where a considerable amount of money can be won or lost in minutes. For some, this can create feelings of victory, cultural superiority and social distinction.

Some may be confused as to how much people are willing to spend on such items. Those who are less competitive can spend more time considering their purchases at an art fair or an online website like this oneSome may be on a budget, which they should be able to stick to if they are careful. Others will have their heart set on a particular piece that is well beyond their means. If you have the money to burn, why not buy it?

1. Mental Benefit

Artwork can have the same mental benefit as other forms of stimulating brain training like crosswords or spatial puzzles. Thinking conceptually, abstractly, and emotionally can help reduce stress, aid sleep and stave off illnesses such as Alzheimer’s, dementia, anxiety or depression.

There is an increasing amount of scientific evidence that proves art enhances brain function. It has an impact on brain wave patterns and emotions, the nervous system, and can actually raise serotonin levels. This again helps with lowering stress and anxiety levels.

Art can change our outlook on life, and the way we view and experience the world. It can help us to see things differently, and to reflect on our life experiences. If you’re looking for inspiration, why not check out some of these fantastic artworks! They might just be the perfect fit for your home!

2. Art is Uplifting and Energising

Artwork in the environments in which we live, work and play can be incredibly uplifting and energising. It can improve mood and assistance people with depression. For example, Art Therapy is a technique and treatment based on the concept that creative expression can foster healing and mental well-being.

The patient is asked to produce a work of art as an expression of his or her inner feelings. The art therapist can then use the painting, drawing, collage, etc., to help understand the nature of the problem and find ways to treat it. This allows people to explore emotions, develop self-awareness, cope with stress, boost self-esteem, and work on social skills.

3. Benefits to Children

Children thrive in spaces that encourage a sense of exploration and visual expression. It is proven to aid visual processing and memory development, which takes place on the right side of the brain.

The right side of the brain controls creativity, spatial awareness, and is responsible for non-verbal communication. The right side of the brain is also responsible for a sense of self, which is very important for children. When a child feels secure and happy, they will be more willing to take risks and step outside of their comfort zone.

Furthermore, art is vital tool that families can use together. It keeps everyone engaged and happy, and can help distract from the sometimes difficult transitions in the day. Art can also create a bond between parent and child that can last a lifetime. It’s also important to remember that you don’t have to have the most artistic child to reap the benefits of incorporating art into your lives, it should be all about fun!

4. Part of Everyday Life

Within the work environment, waiting areas and work spaces also benefit from an atmosphere of vibrancy, encouraging creative, new ways of thinking. As a focal point, art may even aid to initiate conversation with either friends or strangers.

The use of art as a stimulus for creativity also has its place within the home. In fact, without an element of visual stimulation or stimuli, the home could be described as drab and lifeless; empty. And while creativity may not be necessary in every room of the house, it certainly plays a role in the more creative rooms.

5. Emotions Are Made in Our Brain

As humans, our brains are hardwired to emotional respond to colours, shapes, and light. As a result, the mood you create in your home or office directly influences the way you and others think, act, communicate, and communicate.

For a space to feel tranquil and relaxing, it should have warm colours that are not too bright. Another good combination is off-white walls with earth tones for the flooring and furniture. The presence of artworks within a space has the potential to strengthen positive feelings of relaxation, curiosity, sensuality or confidence.

6. The Psychology of Colour and Design

Responding to colour is such a personal experience. While some people love living with an explosion of colour and patterns, others might prefer a world of subdued cool neutrals.

From a design perspective, the best way for soft furnishings, wall colours, and finishes coming together harmoniously is through selection of complementary artworks.

TIP: Think of your colour palette in three parts – neutrals, brights and tones.

Each component of your palette can be used as an accent for complementary colours, or work in harmony with other accents. In bright, colourful spaces, soothing colours work well, and in minimalist interiors, a splash of colour is often the best choice.

If you are working with a limited budget and want to make the most of your interior, consider the impact that colours will have. If there is only room for one accent piece in your living room, but you can’t decide between a colourful painting or a multi-coloured lamp, why not choose both?
